Please listen to me - You are here, at my site, because you have a need.
I built my entire Accounting Career on these Building Blocks. Having this knowledge allowed me to engage in my day-to-day work in a way that impressed my employers.
Don't depend on the Computer to think for you.
A computer is only a tool!
I encourage an Accounting Degree but now may not be the time.
I suggest you start with the Basics.
The Internet is littered with methods of teaching the Principles of Accounting. Some are very confusing.
There are numerous books to teach you the Basics; but then the burden is on you to figure out what the author is trying to say. They can also be confusing.
My system is simple - I created it to teach myself.
Once you grasp the concepts, you have them forever.
I Know there is a Need - so let me Help You learn.
Thirty years ago I was newly divorced and had a family to raise. I took a job in an office that was outsourcing all of their clerical needs. My career started by answering phones, preparing timecards for a payroll company and paying bills. They had a manual set of books. The challenge came when they converted from a manual system to a computerized system. I needed a crash course in Accounting so I enrolled in a class called "Principles of Accounting 101." I stayed in the class just long enough to get an introduction to Debits and Credits.
I became a Master of Debits and Credits and had no idea how valuable learning these concepts would be to my career.
I eventually received a BS in Accounting.
I have been a Controller, Accounting Manager, VP of Finance and Director of Finance.
Now I would like to teach you some Basic Accounting Principles and then share with you the "Tricks" of how I mastered them.
